Door Rubber Replacement
For the last few months the rubber trim around the drivers side door has been coming away. I have often realigned it, but within a couple of uses of the door was coming off again. Time to replace the 10 year old rubber. Now this isn't exactly difficult, but I've done a guide anyway.
You will need the following parts: Door Rubbers (x2) |
You will need the following tools: Small screwdriver or fingers |
I purchase the two new rubbers from SJ Sportscars. These are original Lotus items and cost around £20 each (ouch!). The passenger side wasn't as bad as the drivers side, but I decided to do both together.
As you can see from the pictures above. The rubber was fouling the door and looking unbecoming of the Esprit. Removing the rubber is simple. Just pull it out. I started from the opening end.
Feed the new rubber in. Starting at the windscreen end. I used my fingers to feed the rubber into the window surround. You may need a small screwdriver if it's a little stiffer. Feed one sides lip in first and then 'poke' the otherside in. A little like replacing a cycle tyre!
Easy! And gets rid of that 'Falling Apart' look. Took about 25 mins from start to finish.
LEW's Verdict
A very easy fix, making the Esprit look better and reducing (if only slightly) interior noise. A bit expensive, but needed doing.
