This is the actual and only lotus used by richard gere, julia roberts and jason alexander in the world famous movie “pretty woman”. Pretty woman was a “no budget limit” film that proved to be a complete success and was responsible for jump starting julia roberts acting career as well as sales for lotus motor cars. For the movie a high end sports car was needed to match the wealth of the character, rodeo drive and beverly hills.

Both ferrari and porsche declined the opportunity to allow the use of their cars in the movie because they did not want to be associated with soliciting prostitutes. Porsche was especially strict on this after the unauthorized use of the 928 porsche in risky business. Lotus recognized the placement value in such a major motion picture and took advantage of the opportunity. Their sales tripled in 1990 and 1991.

The car is a major part of the movie, it was this car that brought the characters played by richard gere and julia roberts together. It was rated 4 stars by imcdb because of its substantial use by a main character. The car was loaned by lotus motors to the film company and was returned after its use.

New in 1990 the sticker price on this car was about $85k. The car, titled as a 1989 but is actually a 1990 model is the 1st year for the new s.e.. It was an amazing car with a carbon fiber body, reworked turbo 4cyl that pushed it 0 – 60 in 4.7 seconds, the same speed of a 12 cyl ferrari testarossa, with a top speed of 165mph. Only 324 lotus’s were sold in the us in 1990.
