Reg Goslin from Kent, UK, owns a 1989 Turbo in Red, with a Sand interior.
Model:
Turbo Year: 1989 Colour: Red Interior: Sand Driving Style: Normal Miles per year: 2,000 4,000 Owned Since: Oct 2002 Purchase from: Private Serviced at: Maidstone Sports Cars (Club Lotus approved) Other Cars: BMW 525i SE Previous Lotus': None Why an Esprit: I have wanted one for nearly 20 years o I bought it as a 40th birthday pressie to myself in Oct '02. Upgrades: Has a very impressive service history. I bought it in October from an RAF guy who treted it with huge respect, so I was dead lucky. But, for peace of mind, I had a C service carried out, and any little bits and pieces that needed replacing or fixed completed, including rear shocks, Cam belt, A/C belt, carb rebuild, steering and the usual performance and MOT stuff. Problems: Air con is not working properly so it will be going in for attention in the Spring! The radiator core will also need attention soon, so I will kill two birds with one stone. The leather gait surrounding the handbreak is worn and is annoying the hell out of me, as it is as ugly as sin! That will be sorted when I get the A/C repaired.
Getting my size 10 feet accustomed to those pedals took some work but it's comfortable now. My friends & family want to drive it.Info: Although it has 60'000 miles on the clock, it is a brilliant drive. Heads do turn when I stop for gas and lots of people stop to comment or ask questions. I'm not as knowledgeable as I would like to be on the series, but that knowledge is increasing. Since I have had it, I have seen only 4 on the road, and 3 of those were V8's, the other an S1. This makes the driving of an Esprit Turbo a unique experience.
Had it tuned when it was serviced. Driving home had my heart in my mouth. I thought it was quick BEFORE the service... now the wheels spin in 4th if you aren't careful! And I just love the sound of that turbo kicking in!
I don't drive it often, taking out on a Sunday at the moment just to 'stretch it's legs'. I do this on the motorway for about 10 miles. I will use it a little more when winter is over.
In the future, I don't want to change it too much as I want it to remain original, but I may upgrade the interior leather and carpets. The bodywork is in good condition and is always garaged, but stonechips have to be watched and debris hitting the windscreen isn't funny at 80mph! The wheels have been reconditioned and, for effect, I like to keep the tyres blacked.
