This is my first Esprit, its a 1998 V8 , as
shown in the photos, Im the second owner and it had done just
over 25,000 miles when I purchased it in December 2002. It is my everyday
car and I expect to do about 20,000 miles a year in it. My main reason
for buying an esprit is the lack of a bodyshell to rust and its
fairly easy to work on. The performance, handling and good looks are
a bonus.
It has a standard exhaust as I need to keep the noise to a minimium
because of the neighbours early the morning. It has the 2001 ECU upgrade
and the AP brakes fitted, which make it much easier to stop than the
Brembo setup.
Interior has a one off spun aluminum dash, momo millennium
wheel and an uprated sound system. There are Bose drivers from an
802 mounted in the dash and a custom made bass cabinet in the passenger
footwell with a Tannoy driver. The amps and Bose crossover are mounted
under the front bonnet. There is a 10 disc CD changer in the boot.
The pedal box was made with the pedals spaced further apart for the
previous owner and it makes it much easier to drive. The seats are
black leather with red piping, door linings are in alcantara with
red suede inserts.
I dont have any engine modifications planned, but I am planning
to install a computer which will be linked to the Engine Management
and give readings on a 7 inch monitor mounted in place of the existing
hi-fi head unit as well as recording data. It will also hold my entire
music collection. Im working on a long range pager unit to add
to the alarm.
The roof may sprout a few extra aerials to take both VHF and UHF radio equipment. The downside - being so low to the ground it gets dirty very quickly, not helped by the wheels being wider than the body and so needs a lot of cleaning.
