Update from Lotus Cars
Suspension work continues!

At the moment Lotus are awaiting Bilstein Dampers for the Esprit S1 for testing. Bilstein are at Lotus on 1st March, so they will know how things are going. The S1 & S2 have different damper mountings at both Front & Rear compared to all other cars.

The Springs for the Sport 350 are made and the first set is on the way to Hethel for approval. Lotus should have a Sport 350 there in a couple of weeks time. Hopefully all will be ok and they can release the Springs & Dampers for that model. The 350 has completely different Springs and Dampers. This means that new springs are required to fit the new Bilstein Damper - the old springs can't be used. The Sport 350 (& Sport 300) used the Monroe N65 Damper and not the N63 like the other cars.

Lotus still have to do a check of the front damper on a car from the 1980 – 1985 range. They need to check the damper body clearance with the lower link. As soon as they get a chance to do this Lotus will have covered the bulk of cars built from 1980. If the S1 & S2 work goes well they should be able to cover nearly every Esprit built.

Lotus are also working on Suspension Bushes for the 'Early Cars'. Lotus Aftersales Group have not stocked some of these parts for a long time. Lotus are also looking into remanufacturing the lower rear links for the S1& S2 and the S3 cars with Compomotive wheels to take the more modern bushes including the 'Poly'. All the bushes for these models are currently obsolete.

On the Suspension links things will only happen if there is any interest in owners wanting the links. Getting the Genuine (correct size and stiffness) bushes for the old links is now extremely difficult (and expensive). It would make more sense to change the links to use the new type bushes where possible.

Lotus are looking to get some feedback from owners of S1 & S2 cars with the original links. Email admin@lotusespritworld.com

There is also a special link for the Early Turbo Cars fitted with Compomotive wheels. We can make a revised link for these if there is
interest.

LOG 27
Update

Just an update regarding LOG 27 being held in Aspen/Snowmass August 24-27 2007.

So far TV personality Alain de Cadenet and Peter Egan will be providing entertaining Lotus bits of history. Alain is most recently known as the narrator/driver for the Lotus episode of the Victory by Design series on Speed Channel.

Road & Track Editor at Large; Peter Egan has committed to attend LOG, hopefully with his newly restored 1964 Elan S1. Be part of his chronicles on his planned trip to LOG.

Stay tuned for more updates at www.log27.com

LEW's Back
And hopefully cableable of catching up!

A week off and no internet access. We won't say where we went, but with about 1,000 emails waiting when we got back (mostly junk!) we don't think we'll be going back! Not much fun coming back ;-)

We're off to the US in April, but will be online every couple of days, so you won't even notice!

The Silver Car - Help required!

Tracing the first Esprit
With LEF, we, the members, have been trying to ascertain the whereabouts of the original 'silver' Giugiaro car that all our Esprits were derived from.

Giugiaro and Lotus presented this car to the world at the 1972 Turin motorshow. From our research so far there is very little information that we have found that can establish the current location of this important piece of motoring history.

We have spent several hours trawling websites and inputting search engine info, but have come up with very little hard facts. A number of emails have been sent including one to Giugiarodesign keeping fingers crossed for some useful information.

This email is a direct request to anybody who we know has an interest in the iconic Esprit to see if you are able to add any piece to the puzzle, and then onwards to the famous car. Several pictures of the 'holy grail' are available in this thread on the forum but we believe they are all archive pictures which have been available for many many years. The 35 year old car may be in a museum in any number of countries or under covers privately owned. We simply don't know at this stage but feel, its important enough to try to find out.

If you can shed any light for us, please visit the forum and add to the information we already have, your help is much appreciated.

With anticipated thanks and kindest regards

The members of LEF

Petition against Road Pricing
Sign and pass it on. It only takes a minute.
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax/

Please pass this on to anyone who owns a car/motorcycle. It affects them.
