LEW's Oxford Meet
23rd April 2006
The first of LEW's regular Oxford Meetings will be held on Sunday 23rd April 2006. So put it in your diaries as it should not be missed. As ever the meeting is evolving and after the success of the last meet at Heythrope Park, we are planning to start and fininsh there. A great location for a day of Esprit action.
The day should run as ever, with a start around 10am. Time for chatting and looking over the cars, then a run around 11am on a pre-planned route for which maps will be supplied. Meeting back at Heythrope for more chatting and then a 2 course meal in the Parks grounds. Followed by a talk by engineers from Lotus, then a short questions & answers session and any announcements that are needed with regards to LEW, LEF or the community in general. See our last Meet here.
Engineers from Lotus should be on hand most of the day for any questions you have. Those who have been before will know how great it is to have people with that much experience on hand. With the Lotus Suspension and gearshift service kits being launched around this time (no date as yet). They'll have plenty to talk about!
Due to the chaos at our last meeting when sorting the meals out, we will be taking bookings in advance for the meal. Payment upfront will be needed if you wish to attend the meal and talk by Lotus, as we have already paid a deposit to Heythrope for the day. Details on booking your place will follow shortly. Payments will be in the normal way, bank transfer, paypal or personal cheque.
If all goes well we plan to lay on another Oxford Meet in August/September time with roughly the same format.
We look forward to seeing you all on the day.

New tyres from Black Circles
LEW's Esprit was fitted with a new set of front Dunlop SP9000's last week (see guide here). Purchased through LEW's special discount with Black Circles.com and fitted by Premier Tyres & Exhausts in Bedford, LEW's Esprit now has a full set of rubber after having the rears done in the late summer. Service and price were both excellent and the whole process was painless. Black Circles are well recommended, especially with LEW's 10% discount.
The old, the new and a very dirty Esprit awaiting new fronts tyres! Handling soooo much better with even rubber!
The main reason for the fitting of new front tyres was not that the Goodyears were down to their legal limited (when most usually change tyres and the reason we did the rears), but the vagueness on motorway journey's. LEW's Esprit wasn't handling as well as it should and sitting on the motorway's at 60-90mph there was no feedback through the steering wheel and not feeling Esprit like at all.
After speaking to Lotus about the issue, especially as the Esprit had been set-up with new suspension (not the 'new' stuff yet!) not long ago at the factory, they advise us that with almost new rear tyres and pretty old fronts, it could upset the handling, especially at higher speeds and on motorways in straight lines. The Esprit's handling is one of the best of any car, but can be upset if things aren't correct. Leaving you with a very unEsprit like car.
Since the new fronts have been fitted and we now have a full set of new Dunlop SP9000's. The Esprit is back to feeling like a true Esprit now. It was a reall joy driving it with it's new found abilities. So check your not running tyre that are at two extremes of wear. It could be making your Esprit ill.
What's coming up in 2006
There's plenty of get excited about in 2006 for Esprit owners. We are looking to have two Oxford Meetings this year. One in April/May and one in August/September. We are also looking at arranging another Esprit Driver Training Day. There's also of course Donington in March and the Parts Fair in November. Lotus also have their new suspension packages for most models being released in the first half of the year. A gearshift master unit service kit is also on the cards for the first half of the year. Hopefully Lotus will be looking into other items for Esprit owners in 2006 and LEW will continue to support their efforts.
Esprit Heater Panels now available
Lotus Esprit World's E-Shop has added previously obsolete heater panels from Tui Graphics in New Zealand. After a year of research they have now produced panels to the same specification as the originals. So if you have a panel damaged or are restoring, now's your chance to purchase. These are a limited run.
There's also a 10% discount for Club LEW members. Remember the price is in New Zealand Dollars, so check the exchange rate. Email Tui Graphics from the link on the E-Shop page for more details.
FreeScan Cables Back in Stock
Lotus Esprit World's E-Shop has been restocked with some more of our fab freescan cables. Order yours for immediate (well almost) shipping!
Welcome to 2006! LEW would like to wish all it's users a happy new year. LEW has been without internet access since Christmas Day, so we now have plenty of emails that need answering (and lots of Spam to delete). So if you emailed us, we'll start getting through them as quickly as possible, so don't panic. We should also have a few updates for the site as well, as I'm sure a week without an Esprit fix is too much for some!
